Mr Zux – ‘Bring It Back’ music video

Another Mr Zux music video here, with even more on the way. This was shot on Sunday afternoon (Valentines day, 2010) at my house here actually and around the neighbourhood mostly, then edited a couple of days later.

Once again shot on my Canon Ixy 510 IS pocket camera, also known as the SD960 IS and the Ixus 110 IS which I’ve managed to get much better results from this time.

Avene – The Entrance, Central Coast, Jan 25, 2010

Try not to be alarmed by the opening shot. A clear example of how cruel and inhumane fishing is. This poor shark (I think?) had been hooked, reeled in and left to die on the beach there. I don’t know why, but the end of it’s tail had been cut off too. For shark fin soup perhaps? The thought sickens me. Very sad.

The video overall uses a bunch of video clips I shot at the Entrance on the Central Coast the day before Australia day when most people should have been at work, but were taking a long weekend instead. Keep an eye out for the dancing chip and the potato scallop snatcher.

The music is another track I recorded back in 1995 off one of those old TDK D90 cassettes. Cleaned up and mastered using Izotope’s Ozone 4 plugin.

And once again, shot on my little Canon Ixy 510 IS camera.

Mr Zux ftg Quest Jacob – ‘Bring The Real Shhhh RMX’ music video

A music video I shot for Mr Zux on the weekend, featuring Quest Jacob. The whole video was essentially an experiment to see if I could shoot a music video on my tiny Canon Ixy 510 IS (Also know as Ixus110 IS & SD960 IS) digital camera. And also how quick I could edit it. When Zux found out I wanted to do a quick video while Jacob was at my studio recording his mix tape, he found this track from his upcoming album featuring Jacob and apparently remixed it in 10 minutes! Just for the video. The video was all shot at Manly, just over the hill from where I live.

Essentially, I’m happy with how it turned out. The camera is fully automatic. It’s as ‘consumer’ as you can get. But it’s tiny and the image quality is nice. Also, the frame rate the camera shoots at in 720P is 30fps. So with anything I shoot on the camera I set the playback rate to 0.8333 in Sony Vegas so it plays back at 25fps (PAL). In this case I had to speed up the music for this video, so the guys were miming to it at roughly 18bpm faster than the original.

Avene – All you can eat day, Jan 24, 2010

Another quick video I threw together here. This was essentially the first batch of footage I shot on my new Canon Ixy 510 IS (Ixus 110 / SD960) pocket sized camera. This thing is tiny, but I’m very impressed with the results I’ve been getting from it. All the video was taken after we went to an all you can eat place at Bankstown.

The music is a track I did for a friend to sing over back in 1995. She never ended up using it, so here it is. And once again, it’s off one of my old TDK D90 cassettes, denoised and cleaned up using Izotope’s Ozone 4. Enjoy!

Avene – Cytasia, Jan 27, 2010

I put this together at 12am last night just before I went to bed. Just some footage I’d shot yesterday from my new pocket camera, a Canon Ixy 510 (Japanese version of Ixus 110). Basically just some of the gear in my studio which is called Cytasia.

The beat (music) is something I recorded back in 1995 on the Akai MPC3000 I had then. It’s off a TDK D90 cassette so may sound a bit muffled due to the quick clean up and and noise reduction I applied to it before rendering the video and falling asleep last night. It’s as old as the reverbs in the video. Enjoy.

Old Technology

My old Motorola A920 phone, a photo from 2006. People used to look at this phone and say it was like a brick, but it’s actually no wider or longer than an iphone. I still have it here somewhere, but the battery got to the point where it only lasted about a day or less.

Maleek – ‘Warrior’ music video

I completed this music video for Kenyan/Australian hip hop artist Maleek a few weeks back. It was nearly all shot on bluescreen in his old apartment which didn’t provide much space. The plan was to shoot it outdoors, but unfortunately it rained that day so it had to be shot indoors with difficult lighting. Backgrounds were pieced together from various photos. My New Studio…

Yeah, ok, it’s the laptop in kitchen with my old 2 octave Evolution midi keyboard This Gateway laptop is over 9 years old now. It runs on a 750mhz Pentium3 cpu (there are phones faster than this now!). I’ve got Windows 98SE on there with my old copy of Logic 5.51, the last ever Windows version. I still hate Apple for buying out Emagic.

Anyway, it’s all running very smoothly! I also plugged in my old digigram VX Pocket 24bit audio interface for low latency. The plan is to throw together some tracks on there, then render the parts via the network to the studio PC, load them up in Vegas and mix them on my Mackie Onyx desk, analog.
